A random observation about anime design memes:
Even in realistically designed anime, Japanese characters always have rounder eyes than non-Japanese characters. Consider Hikaru in Hikaru no Go, whose eyes are bigger and rounder than those of all the foreign players at the amateur championships, including the merkins and Germans. (Interestingly, the Chinese and Korean players are depicted realistically, with narrow eyes. Yun-sensei's eyes are practically slits most of the time.)
